As the direct entry and UTME registration comes in and out, candidate encount what i call JAMB DIRECT ENTRY REGULARIZATION problem.
De (direct entry) candidate begin to ask questions like can i do direct entry registration without jamb regularization?
This phrase “JAMB REGULARIZATION” sounds strange to most of the applicants as they just hearing it for the first time, when they got to the point of registration.
so what on earth is regularization?
What is jamb regularization?
Jamb regularization now called “Late Application” is a means by which jamb gives candidate who are in any polytechnic or college of education opportunity to have a valid jamb registration number.
It is a means of ensuring that the Board validates candidates current admission details with the school that offered admission to such candidates. It is usually done in their database.
Who Need Jamb Regularization?
- Any student, or graduate that found his/her admission status as “not yet admitted” on JAMB website.
- 100 Level to final students admitted through Pre Degree Programmes without admission information (sometimes registration number) with JAMB.
- Students with double admssion who decided to accept one of the schools not recognised by JAMB.
- Those who gained admission without passing through Jamb and now have (ND, HND, NCE, IJMB, etc).
Now over to our problem of registering DE Without JAMB Number/Regularization Approval…
Can i do direct entry registration without jamb regularization?
No
You can’t do direct entry Registration Without Regularization Approval from jamb.
For you to do jamb DE, You need to have a valid jamb registration number either from the previous jamb you wrote or after doing jamb regularization.
And if you submitted any for the regularisation approval, it would not be active in the JAMB’s database until you get the official notice that, the number has been approved.
SOLUTION to direct entry registration without jamb regularization
There are two possible solution for you to work around this particular problem;
- Apply for DIRECT ENTRY USING “OTHER DIPLOMA” OPTION while registering for DE
- Register as a UTME candidate and later convert to DE
Let me explain the ways properly.
Apply for DIRECT ENTRY USING “OTHER DIPLOMA” Option
I have already communicated above that you need JAMB regularisation approval before you can register for DE. However, there is a way to go around.
Pay attention and read with keenness.
I only recommend this option if you intend to do jamb Regularization afterwards else don’t use this method.
When you get to the CBT centre, tell them to choose the OTHER DIPLOMA option for you. Even though you’re an ND or NCE graduate and the appropriate option should have been be chosen for you. If you choose either ND or NCE, as concerned, the system will detect that you don’t have any approved JAMB registration number (that was offered admission before). Hence, they will force you out to register regularisation.
If you choose the OTHER DIPLOMA option, the system won’t bother to ask for any JAMB registration number. Your DE registration will be successful and the registration print out will be given to you. Below is sample of what you will receive from the jamb official.
After the DE Registration…
If you had not registered for regularization, you can now register it. And if you’d registered but not yet approved, wait for the approval.
As soon as you receive the approval notice in your email and you print your JAMB admission letter, take the approved JAMB registration number back to any CBT center or JAMB office and ask them to replace your qualification OTHER DIPLOMA with NCE or ND as the case may be.

I repeat again, I don’t recommend this method for jamb direct entry registration since as of 2018 you won’t be able to do jamb Regularization.
Register as a UTME candidate and later convert to Direct Entry
Recently jamb recommend that Direct Entry candidate register as UTME candidate and later convert or upgrade to DE.
I personally recommend this method too since you won’t have to undergo the stress of jamb regularization to jamb correction of A’level qualification which will cost you money.
If you don’t have a valid jamb registration number, Register jamb as UTME candidate write the jamb and then convert it to DE. Don’t worry about failing jamb, It doesn’t matter even if you score low or high in the jamb it is still not useful.
