What is part time programmes?

Part-time programmes are targeted at people who have primary occupations(Jobs or Families to take care of) but intend to return to school to enhance their careers or personal life.

JAMB UTME/DE and Part-time programmes

A lot of students have looked for ways to gain admission without jamb if you are one of such then part-time programmes are sure salvation.

If you have written jamb 5 times or sick and tired of Post-UTME consider part time in Nigeria.

Part-time programmes at Universities

Talking about part time programmes in the university very few universities in Nigeria offer such.

So if you plan on studying courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Law then consider full-time programmes tho some universities offer these kinds of programmes part-time.

Part-time programmes at the university usually run for 5 years instead of 4 years in the case of full-time courses.

Part-Time Programmes at Polytechnics

At a Polytechnic level, Part-time programmes are also called weekend part-time. Just like the name implies, these programmes are run only at weekends.

As of the time of writing this article, Courses offered as part-time are usually taken three years while few Polys run daily this programmes which are taken on weekdays for 2 years after which you are offered a certificate on completion.

There is not much difference between you attending full-time programmes and part-time at the polytechnic. The only difference is timing and fees. While full-time runs from Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm, daily-part time classes are usually fixed for the evening (usually 4 pm to 8 pm).

Distance Learning Programmes in Universities

Distance learning and part-time programmes are used by most universities interchangeable but the honest fact remains there are not the same thing.

Here is the difference, distance learning are usually conducted without expecting students to be present on campus while part-time you have to be there.

Distance learning programmes are idle for postgraduate students and graduates of Bsc, NCE, ND or HND who wish to further their studies.

Sandwich Programmes at Universities

What are Sandwich Programmes?

SANDWICH programmes are generally weekend programmes Primarily for those who had completed a programme at a university – Bsc, HND, ND or NCE and wish to go for education studies.

If you are a tutor or an existing teacher you can grab a sandwich program and upgrade your teaching skills.

Part-Time Programmes Fees

Frankly speaking, part time programmes are pretty expensive!

School fees for part-time students are higher than that for full-time. This is because, part-time programmes, are usually administered and funded by the school management without or with a little subsidy from the government.

NYSC and Part-Time Graduates

If you intend to go for a one-year NYSC program then part time programmes are not for you.

As of the time of writing this article, NYSC has not authorized any part-time schools to participate in the serving programme. Instead, such graduates are issued NYSC Exclusion Letters.

The only condition NYSC grants part-time graduates for service is if such a school is allowed to regularize its students through the exercise called JAMB regularization.
