How do you get your website on Google?
Since Google is one among the biggest drivers of web traffic, let’s get your website on Google.
The first step is to submit your website to Google using your sitemap.
Sitemaps are files that list all of the important pages on your website. You can usually find yours by typing one of these URLs into your browser:
If it’s not there, go to website.com/robots.txt where it’ll usually be listed.
If it’s not there either, you probably don’t have one. If you using WordPress then To create one, you need to use a plugin like Yoast SEO.
To install Yoast SEO, login to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New and search for yoast seo
- Hit “Install now” on the first result, then “Activate.”
- Go to SEO > General > Features. Make sure the “XML sitemaps” toggle is on.
- You should now see your sitemap (or sitemap index) at either yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml or yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml
The second step is to create a free Google Search Console ↱ account and submit your sitemap.

Seo can be done in four aspect these are;
- Keyword research
- On-page SEO
- Link building
- Technical SEO
I will be publishing beginners’ guides about each of these aspect so that this page wouldn’t contain 10,000+ words I will also focus on the basics too.
Keyword research is the process of finding what your customers are searching for, how much traffic those terms can send your way, and how difficult it might be to rank for them.
Look for keyword ideas that would be valuable for your business.
Here is a quick way to find the perfect keywords to rank for…
- Check traffic Potential of the keywords
- Check Ranking Difficulty of the keywords
- Check the Cost per click for the keywords
This is as little as I can go for keyword research in this guide an intensive guide on keyword research will be release in my next article.
On-page SEO involves creating the kind of content searchers are looking for, and ‘optimizing’ it to help search engines better understand what it is about. A comprehensive guide about on page seo can be find here: What Is On-Page SEO? (And How to Do It).
Link building, simply put, is the process of getting other websites to link back to your website.
These links are called backlinks. Getting backlinks from high-quality sites can pass authority to your site, as well as help you rank higher in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
According to Google ↱, an important part of identifying what pages are relevant and trustworthy is “understanding if other prominent websites link or refer to the content.”
I will discuss more in the forthcoming guide.
Technical SEO is the process of helping search engines like Google to find, understand, and index your pages. It can get quite complicated i won’t go any deeper here.
For now, i suggest signing up for a free at Neil Petal ubersuggest Webmaster Tool ↱account and scheduling regular crawls of your website. These crawls check for 100+ SEO issues, including plenty of common technical problems.
4. How to track SEO success
At this point, you should have a pretty good understanding of SEO. But how do you measure and track the performance of your efforts? The most obvious answer is just to track the amount of traffic your website gets from organic search.
If you’re using Google Analytics, you can quickly view your organic traffic by going to:
Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels > Organic Search
For ubersuggest users, Login> Traffic > Traffic Overview to see your progress.
